After a busy busy week, I finally got the chance to write the reviews for Guns N’ Roses so expected album Chinese Democracy, and The Killers new release Day & Age. As always, the links provided here lead you to the US iTunes Store.

  • Guns N’ Roses – Chinese Democracy (Nov 24, 2008) After a 10 year wait, Axl Rose finally released the album. This, of course, has backfired a bit. They had amazing hits that still many of us love to listen to, like the classic Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I & II. This was a big chance they took. The album is not bad, not bad at all. Many will disagree with this, since everybody expected hits like Welcome to The Jungle and Sweet Child O’Mine all over again. After 10 years, of course the bar was high and it would never be reached by Axl (with or without Slash). Remember, this is their sixth studio album and their first since 1993. Considering that, I have to say give the album a chance, listen to it a few times before you make up your mind. The album in general has a lot of post production work done to it, effects, voices, riffs… I feel it more electrical than the tough and rough guitar back in Slash days. Axl voice is not the same but it’s definitely there. There are a few songs that have caught my attention, like Better, Madagascar and I.R.S. Overall, I give it a solid 7. Give it a shot, don’t think of the Appetite for Destruction days and tell me what you think about it!
  • The Killers – Day & Age (Nov 24, 2008) First of all, design wise the cover is amazing. I love it. It’s a mosaic that, in my opinion, goes amazingly well with the logo they have used. Solid rock band image. Now, for the music. It’s mind blowing, from the track order to the feel you get by listening to it. The production is impeccable and the way they have delivered their third studio album (if we don’t take under consideration the greatest hits album). I feel this is more like a follow up album for Hot Fuss, their debut album – but Sam’s Town is on it’s own league. My favorite tracks so far are Human, This is your Life, and Goodnight, Travel well.
So, hope you enjoyed my small and brief reviews for the week. Let’s see what December has for us! Happy Thanksgiving and hope to hear from you!
