On January 13th, Kelly Clarkson released her new single “My Life Would Suck Without You”, was transmitted digitally to radio stations on January 13, 2009 at 6:00 pm EST for immediate airplay. I got today a YouTube Subscription service email, in which the Kelly Clarkson official channel had also a copy of the single, which you can find here.

What it amazes me more every day, is that the music industry is going all digital, and it was a few years ago when most of us were skeptical about digital music. I remember way back in my Windows 98 days, when a friend installed on my very modest 4GB PC the latest version of Winamp and a few MP3 files he had. I was thinking what’s the point of this? There’s not enough tunes, I listen mostly to my mixed CDs so a digital version of the music will do no good… Plus, how can I get the music out since I don’t have a CD burner and the files are way too large for a floppy! I have to confess, I giggled as I wrote that last floppy part.

So, back on track, who would’ve thought that 3 years later, Apple and Steve Jobs would release the iPod (a Mac Rumors page here) a gadget so groundbreaking, that was just made for Mac users, doubles as an 5GB external FireWire HD with a 10 hour battery life that takes 1 hour to charge – and soon we all wanted to have one.  I have to confess that I got a 4th generation U2 Special Edition as my first iPod. I wanted that one so badly I saved for a while to get that slightly higher priced gadget. I remember, got it at the Fashion Show Apple Store  in Vegas. I felt like a million dollars when I walked out of the store with my Apple bag with the iPod and my first iTrip, black of course and a Griffin Tech fan since then, so it would go smoothly with my iPod. Since I didn’t own a PowerBook, I had to wait to get back to the office (something like 4-5 days later) and finally sync my music. I was already an iTunes user, so I had a very organized music library ready to be synced. The years go by and after two upgrades for the U2 Special Edition iPod (I really loved the contrast between red and black) I ended up getting a 160GB black iPod Classic.

As me, I’m sure that most of us never thought that we would be crunching  numbers to get a bigger iPod that has a color screen, video and photo capable and that I could actually use in the car… Much less thinking of getting music online not on CDs and getting all the scoop on music from the Internet and not from magazines or the paper. Music releases were made mostly on radio and now, bands like Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead go all digital (and free) before selling their music (digital or hard copy). Times are changing and it’s up to us to get a hold on the latest tech trends and take them to the next level. Can’t wait to see what a few years down the road will take us music wise!
