Snow Patrol released back in October 2008 – on the 28th to be exact – their 5th studio album. Just a few hours ago I got a notice from my Youtube subscriptions that there was a new video from them, for their third single to be released on March 9 called If There’s a Rocket Tie Me to It. You can find the video here – I’m linking a universal version for the international readers. The concept is gorgeous, they play with the same idea around the cover, all the paper stars. Now, looking at the video and the cover, you can see how both go perfectly in-sync with their branding.

Also, I want to talk about the album – iTunes link. A side note, I remember buying it while in El Salvador through the iPhone. How cool is that! And yes, I bought the album before listening to it. It’s one of those bands I’ll have an infinite affair with so I’ll always buy their stuff. Ok, back on track. First, when I actually got the chance to make it back to the mac and read the reviews on iTunes, I was surprised at the time’s 3 star rating, comparing this album to their two previous ones, specially to the single Chasing Cars released back in 2006. I don’t know why all of us go right to compare. All of us do at some point.  But still, I found some pretty harsh reviews of the album. All their stuff is written by Snow Patrol’s front man Gary Lightbody, who I have to say is an amazing lyricist. For example, take the lyrics from their second single called Crack The Shutters:

I could sit for hours finding new ways to be awed each minute
Cuz’ the daylight seems to want you just as much as I want you

How can this not be beautiful words put into music? Well, I know I like it. They have a very unique style that has developed through the years. The band goes back to late 1994. That’s 15 years in the business. Now, this album has a very nice feel to it. As a music fan I can certainly tell you that not every album is going to be one that you’ll love right away – even if it’s your favorite band or artist. Sometimes it gets a couple of listens to like an album and it will grow on you. Why is this important? You’re used to their previous stuff, so let’s give the new tunes a chance. I liked every Snow Patrol album, specially the last two, but this one already has an earned space for the lyrics alone. So, here’s the video for your enjoyment!

And for those wondering about the title of the post, it’s the last line of the chorus for Take Back the City:

It’s a mess, it’s a start, It’s a full work of art
You’re a save, you’re a call, Every crack, every wall
Make a sign, make a fight, Get your head, it’s not right
We can sing, ’til you drop, ‘Cause the fun just never stops
